Hop Right In!

I believe that salt is to food, what food is to life. In right proportions, it can heighten the taste of what you eat..and in the wrong - destroy! Even the most delicious sweets come added with some salt...to taste!

As for me, I've never enjoyed cooking. And as contrary to my owning a food-blog as it may sound, I always think about daily, routine cooking as a chore. But my tryst with the pots and pans began when I got a kitchen all to myself...I began experimenting and exploring new worlds in my own home. Some outcomes were excellent and some plain disasters. Then sprouted the need to keep track of all those good ones...and hence this blog!

Here, I share those experiments that pleased more than one palate!

Sour Cream And Veggie Dip

The last time I had friends over, I wanted to have a simple dish as a starter because I had some planned up some really heavy items for the main course. I had just about 15 minutes left before my guests would arrive...and that seemed more than enough to put together this refreshing dip. It paired perfectly well with the White Zin we had on hand. The sweet taste of the blush wine complimented the sour dip... and what more can I say, we had a fabulous time devouring it!

I know the pictures do not do much justice...but I was on the run as I mentioned earlier.

Ingredients
1.5 Cups Sour Cream
2 tbsp each - Finely chopped red onions, bell peppers (red/green), tomatoes and parsley/coriander
2 tbsp Lemon zest
1/2 tsp Ground pepper
1 tsp Chilie powder (adjust to suit your need)
And, of course, some salt to taste!

Method
- In a large bowl toss in all the ingredients and blend
- Serve with baked pita chips

TIP - If you are planning on making the dip ahead of time, then add salt and stir just before serving

SERVES 8-10 people, depending on how deep you dip your chip ;)

  1. Slurp! It looks delicious! And fixing it in less than 15 minutes sounds even better! Very nice...bookmarked to try asap! I did have a deluge of party-hosting last 2-3 weeks, so let me give it a rest for a bit before we start again :) But the next party we have, Im def making this and make everyone dip, dip, dip, deeper into the dip :)

Psst...Im just worried that all the ingredients in the dip will make me a sitting duck and I'll forget to play perfect hostess thereafter! :)

  5. @ Madhuri - Yup.. you ought to try it. This is a crowd pleaser!!

@ Simply.food and Priya - Thank You!! Yes, it works great as a spread too...but the sour taste should be balanced out by some other flavours..so you could add tomatoes, lettuce etc. to your sandwich/wrap

@Archana - Yes. Pita Chips are broken pieces of pita bread baked in the oven. You need not bake them at home.. you shud be able to get it in the stores. If you do not like pita chips you can try using any other chip, but make sure its something that's heavy textured because the dip is thick. So, if you use potato chips for instance, the chips may break when you dip 'em.
Have fun trying out with other chips. It will even make a great dip for carrot sticks/cucumber etc. Great way to get kids eat veggies, eh?!

  9. I came across this one yesterday and I thought I'd try it out, and I must say....

This tastes wonderful!!! So full of flavor and life. I used it for chips, but today when I made some tortilla wraps, I thought I would add it to all the content which includes guacamole, and wow....it just worked so well.

Thank you so much for this wonderful dip Deeepti! ^____^
