Hop Right In!

I believe that salt is to food, what food is to life. In right proportions, it can heighten the taste of what you eat..and in the wrong - destroy! Even the most delicious sweets come added with some salt...to taste!

As for me, I've never enjoyed cooking. And as contrary to my owning a food-blog as it may sound, I always think about daily, routine cooking as a chore. But my tryst with the pots and pans began when I got a kitchen all to myself...I began experimenting and exploring new worlds in my own home. Some outcomes were excellent and some plain disasters. Then sprouted the need to keep track of all those good ones...and hence this blog!

Here, I share those experiments that pleased more than one palate!

Spicy Tawa Tofu

Personally, I think the use of tofu in dishes begins and ends with it being a super-protein source. I'm not a big tofu fan and I only buy it to render some soft texture to stir-fries or side dishes. But after this experiment, my opinion changed. You can cheat anyone with this, saying its paneer! This one is pretty much on the lines of my Paneer Tikka, so if you have tried that, this will not be unfamiliar...but, either ways, the name says it all! Yes, I have used the tawa/griddle instead of the oven for this, to keep things simple and quick. And, since its tofu it is healthy too!

Ingredients
Tofu - Cut into cubes (I have used about 1.5 cups of extra-firm tofu cut into rectangular pieces)
1 Cup - Yogurt, whipped to a smooth texture
2 tbsp - Red Chillie Powder (You can substitute with Cayenne/Paprika powder)
1/2 tsp - Coriander Powder (Dhania Powder)
1/2 tbsp - Chaat Masala
1 tsp - Turmeric Powder
1 tbsp - Ginger Garlic paste
Oil
And, of course, some salt to taste!

Method
- Mix the yogurt, red chillie powder, coriander powder, chaat masala, turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste and salt to make a smooth paste
- Toss in the tofu cubes in it and marinade for about 3-4 hours
- After the tofu is marinated, on a hot tawa/griddle pour a few drops of oil and spread it around
- Once the oil is hot, place the marinated tofu pieces and fry
- Keep flipping the pieces every few minutes
- Fry until they turn a beautiful golden shade on either side and are firm to touch
- Serve hot with freshly chopped salad

  4. Divya, its simply fried over a medium-low flame. Not deep or stir fried. Try it and let me know!

  5. Divya, its done something on the lines of how you would fry a chapathi, for instance! Except this is a lot thicker and will take a little more time.
