Hop Right In!

I believe that salt is to food, what food is to life. In right proportions, it can heighten the taste of what you eat..and in the wrong - destroy! Even the most delicious sweets come added with some salt...to taste!

As for me, I've never enjoyed cooking. And as contrary to my owning a food-blog as it may sound, I always think about daily, routine cooking as a chore. But my tryst with the pots and pans began when I got a kitchen all to myself...I began experimenting and exploring new worlds in my own home. Some outcomes were excellent and some plain disasters. Then sprouted the need to keep track of all those good ones...and hence this blog!

Here, I share those experiments that pleased more than one palate!

About

Some Salt To Taste started out as an arena for me, the hungry writer (pun intended), to practice my writing skills with the aid of the next best thing I like to do - Eat! However, slaving in the kitchen has never been my kind of thing. Especially to cook the boring, everyday which always seemed like an ordeal. Initially, I began sharing recipes that were easy, common and certainly for the lazy cook. I HATE to go back at look at those posts. But, that has what has got me where I am today, an interested and adventurous cook! With time, SSTT began getting its share of viewers and readers which fuelled my desire to keep it going. My only aim was to have recipes stashed up here for me to refer to whenever I tried a new dish. But, as time went by, things changed....and certainly for the better. My blog began inspiring me and today I've come to say I actually enjoy my time in the kitchen. Making meals for my family with all of my heart and soul and seeing them smile...it is so worth every minute you spend with the ladles and saucepans.

For those of you who don't know me personally. I hail from Bangalore and am currently based in New Jersey. A technical writer by profession and an artist, fun and food lover at heart. I gave up my job to become home-maker once we, hubby and I, got to the US. We are blessed with a wonderful son, who keeps up entertained and gives us a reason to enjoy life.

If you already know me well, you might be familiar with my love for writing. The fact that I would rather spend time describing a dish in words(not to mention devouring it!) rather than making it myself. But, sometimes I like to innovate new dishes out of whatever I've got stacked up. Of course, there are times when I get bored and make the mundane "daal-chaawal". And then there are days when I'd look all over the internet and my cook-books (oh yes, I've collected a few since I started SSTT) and come up with something spectacular to serve up at the table.

And, then (I love to talk about this) there is my love for baking which I would consider as therapy for the soul. If you'd ask me - I'd say eating is therapy, too. Talking about baking, I can stand hours to put in creative decorations on my cakes. Not to blow my own trumpet, but I do love any task that can get my creative juices flowing - in the kitchen or outside.

Call it modesty or otherwise, but I really am no super-cook. I probably would not be able to say 'Been-there, done-that' to a whole lot of ingredients/recipes this world has to offer. But, I'd definitely like to get there some day, for below all the layers of what makes me who I am, is a person who is adventurous about everything 'food'! That being said, with technology advancing and memory diminishing what better way to stow away precious recipe finds than blog 'em?

I invite you to try the recipes I post on this blog and send in your valuable comments, tips and just anything that you want to share (be it a modified/original version of a recipe too!). I hope Some Salt To Taste helps you bring, to your table, food that satisfies your taste buds and bring peace to your soul!

  2. Thanks Madhuri! I hate to be boasting, but yes, I am proud of myself, too. Of course I've come this far with a lot of inspiration from you yourself!
